Solar Systems- The solar system is designed to provide workable electricity for lighting, laptop computer use, and small appliance use. Eventually we would like to increase our number of panels to support the use of a box freezer which would have about the same electricity demand as a stand up refrigerator or even less as we improve its insulation design. Coolers with ice from the freezer will be utilized as cool storage systems for garden greens and other cool storage needs. Ideally we would also like to be able to power a large screen LCD monitor or projection system for presentations requiring computer generated graphics or video such as PowerPoint presentations. This would require approximately six more panels than is listed here. Photo Voltaic- Panels- 3x Evergreen 195w @ $660ea =$1980, 2kw 24v Inverter $2000, Charge Controller $600, Battery Bank- Odyssey 2250’s x4 @ $468ea +s&h=$2500, Cabling, Peripherials, and Hardware $1000 Total ~ $9000 The Fresnel Lens system will be our most cost effective and energy efficient system on the land. Using concentrated heat from direct sunlight we can: distill water for drinking or washing food and dishes, sterilize medical and hygienic supplies, cook, do laundry, and explore an array of applications that require heat and all of it with zero carbon emissions.
Fresnel Lens- $150, Platform and Peripherial hardware $150 System Total ~ $300 Pumps- The manually driven pumps will be the hallmark of our sustainability methods. Incorporating human powered propulsion these systems will provide cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary stimulation to members of the community which lowers resting heart rates, promotes optimal circulation, stimulates endorphin production and release, and supports vital elimination systems for those who utilize them, all of this while also pumping water. Manually Driven Pumps- Treadle Pump Parts- $100, Flywheel Pedal Pump- $150, See-Saw Pump- $150, Merry Go Round Pump $250
As a backup system and for more intensive needs we will have an electric pump on site for pumping water.
